Dr. Sara Truebridge, Ed.D.

Truebridge is currently the Education Consultant to the documentary, In Search of Greatness. She was also the Education Consultant on the films, Beyond Measure; Race To Nowhere; and Love Hate Love, which had its television debut on Oprah Winfrey’s network. Truebridge’s writing has appeared in a variety of peer-reviewed journals, newspapers, education and parenting magazines, and websites including The Journal of Educational Controversy, Education Leadership, Kappa Delta Pi Record, ASCD publications, and The San Francisco Chronicle. Truebridge’s book, Resilience Begins with Beliefs: Building on Student Strengths for Success in School was published in 2014 by Teachers College Press. 

Truebridge co-authored a chapter for Wellbeing and Resilience Education COVID-19 and Its Impact on Education Systems (in press, Routledge) and contributed a chapter on resilience in Creating Inclusion and Well-being for Marginalized Students: Whole-School Approaches to Supporting Children’s Grief, Loss, and Trauma (2017, Jessica Kingsley Publishers).

 

In 2006, Truebridge and Bonnie Benard co-authored a component on resilience published in Planned Responses to Unplanned Change, part of ASCD’s response to Hurricane Katrina. Truebridge and Benard also co-authored the chapter, A Shift In Thinking: Influencing Social Worker’s Beliefs About Individual and Family Resilience in an Effort to Enhance Well-Being and Success for All which is included in the 6th edition of Dennis Saleebey’s book, The Strengths Perspective in Social Work Practice (2013, Pearson).


Truebridge is the 2011 recipient of the American Educational Research Association (AERA) Excellence in Research to Practice Award, awarded by the Special Interest Group (SIG): Research Use.


Truebridge has over 20 years of classroom experience ranging from Pre-K to High School. As a student teacher, Truebridge was recognized by the National Education Association (NEA) as one of three outstanding elementary student teachers in the nation.


Prior to becoming a teacher, Truebridge worked on policy and legislation as the Legislative Analyst for Education and the Legislative Analyst for Women’s Issues in the New York State Senate. Truebridge was later appointed by New York State Governor Mario Cuomo to be the Special Assistant to the New York State Secretary of State. 

 

December, 2020 Truebridge earned her Doctorate and M.A. in Educational Leadership, and an Administrative Credential from Mills College. In November 2007, Truebridge was selected to participate in the Harvard Graduate School of Education program, Closing the Achievement Gap: Linking Families, Schools, and Communities through Complementary Learning. Truebridge holds a B.A.
in psychology from Denison University. She received her teaching credential from California State University, East Bay and is a graduate from the University of California Berkeley program, Children and the Changing Family. Truebridge is a recipient of a Mills College Education Alumnae Scholarship Award. Truebridge is also one of two international recipients of the 2005 Howard M. Soule Fellowship for Doctoral Studies: a Phi Delta Kappa Graduate Fellowship in Educational Leadership.


With a deep dedication and commitment to service, Truebridge is active in a number of projects in Africa including working with the Batwa tribe in developing a health clinic and a self-sustaining lifestyle; working with organizations and individuals dedicated to preventing human trafficking—rescuing victims, and providing support services and care to survivors and service providers; and supporting the students and staff at a primary school in a village outside of Mukono, Uganda that serves students orphaned by parents who died from HIV/AIDS.


Truebridge is a member of the American Educational Research Association (AERA); ASCD; Learning Forward; Pi Lambda Theta, the National Honor and Professional Association in Education; and Phi Delta Kappa, a professional education association. She also is a member of the board of directors of Youth Uganda, Inc. Truebridge continues to facilitate the Twitter Chat,
#resiliencechat, which she started in 2014.
